Jason Malli’s musical exploration has indeed traveled a route obscure.    Manifesting itself as reverence for the art of the tune, Jason’s strong folkloric roots in New England-style ancient fife and drum corps music drives his melodic narratives to coalesce with his simultaneous journeys as a saxophonist within the realm of jazz, especially as extended by a deep appreciation of Coltrane,  Davis, and Sun Ra amongst others.   As a composer, Jason continues to explore rhythmic subtleties as enhanced by the minimalists, the tonal deconstructionism of the serialists, and the advent of indeterminacy, yet never completely abandoning the charm and simplicity of the tune.
