jigtheobscure.com will now feature Scorch, an interactive music player created with Sibelius, a music notation program. You will need to download the free program; just go to jigtheobscure.com/music.html and follow the link to the Scorch site. Once you have the program, you will be able to access the interactive pages by clicking on tune titles at jigtheobscure.com/tunes.html. The tune will open in a separate window where you will not only be able to listen to the midi realization, but change its tempo by moving the slider and transpose its key to play with different instruments. Click on the key signature (on the toolbar) to open up the “Transpose” window, and for example, fifers should click the “Down” button and select “Major 3rd” from the drop down list. The score will now be in the key necessary to play along with you playing the tune in its original key. You will just need your copies of Jig the Obscure, Idyll Works of a Madman, and the forthcoming By a Route Obscure.
